Christmas Party

Today, Paul attended his first Christmas party at the da da da's office. He stole the show by eating carrots and peaches and smiling at everyone. The sweater and hat were hand knit by Paul's great aunt, Mary.

As usual, Paul and Nellie are great friends.

My empathetic little boy

I am discovering that Paul is a very empathetic little boy. It was really rather shocking to me, although as I reflect on it, not very surprising - I am empathetic, why shouldn't my baby be the same?
On Tuesday my mother came over to my house. She was rather distraught over Christmas coming quickly and feeling unprepared on many different levels. Before she arrived, I had been feeding Paul breakfast (rice cereal and bananas - yum!), and we were both pretty happy. When my mom arrived, she was rather upset and within a few minutes (less than five), Paul was reflecting her mood back to her. He had a very serious look on his face and watched her very intently. He didn't smile until she began to smile at him. It didn't matter what I did, he was concerned about my mom.
The question for me becomes, how do I deal with this? I cannot shield my little guy from sorrow, but it makes me sad to see him unhappy. Oh well, I suppose as he lives a genuine life, he will figure it out for himself.

Sweet Paul and Santa Clause

Paul is now 7 months old! I have a hard time believing that this much time has past since we were expectant parents....

Yesterday (December 9th) the church had a breakfast with Santa Clause. Paul was SO CUTE! He didn't cry on Santa's lap, but he had this really serious look at first and then he looked at the long white beard and Smiled his big toothless grin. It was great fun. We caught one picture, and are waiting to see the picture they got at church - if we have a smiling picture from church, we'll try to get it copied onto the blog soon.

Meanwhile, Paul continues to become a big flirt - he went to the fiber guild Christmas party and made lots of friends among my fiber guild members. At 7 months, he already knows how to work a room.

More soon,
:)

6 months - what a boy!

Here is the most recent picture of our sweet little family!
This captures Paul pretty well - he is our little sunshine..... I can't imagine life without him.

These days he sleeps 12 hours/night and takes an occasional nap during the day. Today he was up most of the day - a one hour nap (with me) in the afternoon was about all for down time. But I cannot complain, he was happy to talk to me in his own little language while I cooked and did stuff in the kitchen.

He does eat now - oatmeal - at least 1/4 cup a day and he likes peas, carrots, sweet potatoes and bananas. Green beans - not so much.

Life is fun! He giggles and enjoys peek-a-boo and playing with the dog. Must capture some more images....

5 months - in Portland

This is little Paul with his great uncle Paul - my dad's brother, Paul Thornburg - we were out in Portland OR for my Grandma Noble's passing.... Both Pauls look completely laid back, don't you think? The little duck boy!
Paul with his Great Grandma Thornburg! They were quite the couple and she now refers to him as her 'little boyfriend'
We had a great trip out, even though the overall event was sad. I really enjoyed seeing all my aunts and uncles and being able to introduce Paul. Paul was a great traveller and I was really thankful that we had seatmates who were ok with breastfeeding. I was amazed that he didn't fuss or fidget much at all - the baby bjorn carrier was a GREAT tool in the airport - I'll have to get a picture of us in it before he gets too big.....

Four Months - First attempt at baby food

OK, So I'll admit, I gave in to my worst fears that he 'wasn't getting enough' to eat and attempted to give him baby cereal when he was 4 months old - here is the proof! Note: clean booster chair situated in the center of the table..... lots of clutter in the background... Cute baby - front and center!
The large, hairy arm belongs to Mark! Paul looks more interested in touching the food than in actually eating it...
I look very concentrated on feeding him! But he wasn't buying into the idea....
In the end, we decided to wait for a while to try again. And I kept pumping and eating well and taking brewer's yeast and fenugreek. Ah the things we do for love, or milk or for the love of milk!

Three months

This little sleeper had bears on his feet! A little crabby boy!

As you can see - he is developing personality - and he loves bright colors!
I promise I'll stop gushing about him sometime soon....

About one month

Mark and Paul - watching baseball.....

We tried to get a picture of him smiling, but he was too quick for the camera!
This was just about the time he started sleeping through the night - at that point 8hrs/night - I became a new mom! Able to function once again.....

New baby pictures

This picture was taken within the first month he was home - he loves sleeping on our bed - and he looks like a cherub! Dad and Paul - snoozing together
The first time we had him out in the stroller - you could barely see him! Now he doesn't even fit that hat!

Starting an online journal/blog/rambling

OK, So I have decided to start a blog - I might have had one a while back, but I can't remember, I must have forgotten to post anything and I can't find it now anyway, so oh well. Here's to a fresh start.

I am actually copying my sister, Mary, with this blog thing because I really like how she is able to get pictures out to everyone quickly.... And I think I need to take a few more pictures of Paul before he gets so old I can't remember him being a baby. The time is flying by - on Monday he will be 7 months old! I can't belive it!

So, here are some pictures of him, and I will try to get more pictures taken and posted!
